Student Grants

If you are a student interested in attending ISWC 2016 you may be eligible to apply for a grant to support the costs of travel and lodging. This year, travel grants are funded by the Semantic Web Science Association (SWSA) and the US National Science Foundation (NSF).

Applying for a Student Travel Award

The deadline for applying for an ISWC 2016 travel award is August 10th, 2016. Please make sure that you have submitted your application and that your supervisor has sent us a confirmation email by this date.

To apply for a grant please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that you are eligible to apply for an ISWC 2016 travel award: You must (a) currently be a student at a higher education institution, and (b) you must have an ISWC 2016 submission that has either been accepted to, or that is currently undergoing review for either the main conference, the doctoral consortium, an ISWC 2016 workshop, the poster/demo session or the Semantic Web challenge. (You may have submissions to more than one of these categories).
  2. Fill out and submit the ISWC 2016 Student Travel Award Application Form.
    Link to the Application Form
  3. Ask your supervisor to email us ( iswc.travel.awards.193746@gmail.com ) confirming that you are a current student under their supervision and that you will be attending ISWC 2016. The subject of the email should be "ISWC 2016 Student Travel Award Application Verification for {YOUR NAME}". The text should read "I confirm that {YOUR NAME} is a student that is currently under my supervision at {INSTITUTION NAME} and that they will be attending ISWC 2016 to present work that they completed under my supervision. {SUPERVISOR NAME}"
  4. Register for ISWC 2016.
You will receive a notification by September 1st, 2016.

Award Details

The exact amount awarded to each student will depend on depending on the needs stated in the application and the kind of submission that they have in ISWC 2016. Preference will be given to students that are first authors on papers accepted to the main conference or the doctoral consortium, followed by those who are first authors on papers accepted to ISWC workshops and the Poster & Demo session.

This year we will consider supporting travel companions for attendees with special needs. We are also considering offering support to help attendees who would necessarily incur childcare costs whilst attending ISWC and travelling with a child. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss your specific requirements please do not hesitate to get in contact with us. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us ( iswc.travel.awards.193746@gmail.com ).

Alternative Funding Opportunities

In addition to the grants provided by the SWSA and NSF we encourage students to explore other funding opportunities. As a reference, we provide some pointers below to travel awards from different countries and organizations. If you are awarded a travel grant by an external organization as well as by SWSA or NSF, you need to notify us as soon as possible ( iswc.travel.awards.193746@gmail.com ) so that we can adapt or relocate your funding accordingly. Note that SWSA and NSF are not responsible, or have any relation, with these listed funding programs. This list will be continuously updated as we detect more opportunities.
